Este es uno de mis lugares favoritos de esta ciudad porque es pequeño, acogedor y cálido. Es un restaurante italiano con más o menos 10 mesas, es bastante viejo y definitivamente yo amo su decorado vintage. La comida en este lugar es deliciosa; ellos tienen una de las mejores pizzas en esta ciudad y un asombroso Carpaccio de res altamente recomendado. Algunas veces tienes que esperar para poder entrar porque puede estar lleno. Esta ubicado en uno de las zonas más grandiosas de caracas y queda cerca del metro, lo cual es bueno si vas a pie. Los precios son un poquito caros pero no mucho y la atención puede ser buena o no tanto - es cuestión de suerte.

This is one of my favourite places of the city because it’s a small, cozy and warm. This is an Italian restaurant with 10 tables more or less, it’s very old and I definitely love their vintage decor. The food in this place is delicious; they have one of the best pizzas in this city and an amazing beef Carpaccio that is highly recommended. Sometimes you have to wait to get into the place because could be full. It’s located in one of the greatest zones of Caracas and it’s near the Subway, which is nice if you go there on foot. The prices are a little bit expensive but not too much and the attention can be good or not so much - it’s a matter of luck.

Café Taxco, Caracas.

Si quieres sentirte como Pilón (el personaje de Popeye) tienes que ir a Taxco. Es una cafetería vieja con un estilo simple en el oeste de Caracas y lleva ahí muchos años haciendo las mismas hamburguesitas deliciosas. Tienen variada comida al mejor estilo de cualquier lunchería, pero son famosos por sus hamburguesas: estas son pequeñas y muy simples con una carne delgada pero bien aderezada y una salsa que parece hecha por los dioses; no sé cual es el secreto para que sepan tan bien y quizás nunca lo sepa, pero son maravillosas. Lo divertido es ir y pedir un montón de hamburguesitas, pero también recomendaría probar las papas fritas con limón y sal, el sánduche de queso con mermelada que es delicioso (y además es una buena opción si eres vegetariano) y por supuesto las merengadas o el asombroso toddy frío. El precio es como el de las hamburguesitas pequeñas de McDonald’s, ni barato ni muy caro. Como última recomendación les puedo decir que es mejor ir durante el día o no muy tarde en la noche porque la zona no es tan bonita que digamos.

Pd: Deberían incorporar un reto Taxco de quién come más hamburguesas. Lo máximo que yo he visto comer son 10 taxcohamburguesas.

If you want to feel like Wimpy (the character from Popeye) you have to go to Taxco. It’s an old cafeteria with a simple style in the west side of Caracas and it has been there for many years doing the same delicious little burgers. They have a variety of food in the best style of any diner but they are famous for their burgers: small and very simple with a little flat but well seasoned patty and an amazing sauce that appears to be made by the gods. I don’t know what the secret is for their yummy taste and maybe I never will, but definitely they are wonderful. The fun is to go and order a lot of burgers, but I also recommend trying the awesome fries with lemon, the grilled cheese and jelly sandwich that is delicious (and it’s a nice option if you are vegetarian) and of course the shakes or the amazing toddy.  The price is like the little burgers from McDonald’s, not too cheap or too expensive. As a last recommendation I can say that it’s better to go during the day or not too late at night because the zone is just not that pretty.

 Ps: They should be put a Taxco challenge: who can eat more burgers. The limit I have seen someone eating is 10 taxcoburgers.

Este lugar fue un descubrimiento extraordinario. Es un sitio muy bonito y acogedor pero en Ámsterdam todos los lugares son realmente hermosos. Tienen un menú extenso con muchas combinaciones dulces y saladas de panquecas; puedes pedir cualquiera porque seguramente sabrá muy bien. Yo recomiendo una con manzanas y tocineta que aunque suene raro es una maravillosa combinación. Otra cosa casi obligatoria es echarle a la panqueca el sirope que encontrarás en una gran jarra sobre la mesa, porque la mezcla de sabores y texturas es alucinante. Las panquecas son bastante grandes pero son tan sabrosas que no importa el tamaño igual te la comerás. El precio es un poco caro pero vale la pena pagarlo. En general Ámsterdam es un poco caro.         

 PD: En Ámsterdam tengan cuidado con las bicicletas

This place was an extraordinary discovery. It’s a nice and cozy restaurant but in Amsterdam every place is really beautiful. They have a large menu with many sweet and salty combinations of pancakes, and you can try any one because it will certainly taste great. I recommend one with apples and bacon; although it sounds weird it’s a marvelous combination. Another must is to put on your pancake the syrup that you’ll find in a big jar on the table because the mix of flavors and textures is mind-blowing. The pancakes are very big but so yummy that no matter the size you’ll eat it. The price is rather expensive but worth the effort. In general Amsterdam is a bit expensive.

PS: Watch out for the bicycles in Amsterdam.

Kakao, Caracas

Para esos días fríos o los domingos aburridos puedes ir a Kakao y tomar el mejor chocolate caliente. No soy fan del chocolate caliente pero en ese sitio es como tomar una bebida que viene del cielo. Kakao es un lugar bonito y cuchi en el que puedes pasar un buen rato. Tienen muchas cosas dulces para comer si quieres otra cosa y recomendaría probar los bombones rellenos, tienen de muchos sabores incluyendo cosas como pimienta, cointreau o jengibre. Los precios no son baratos ni especialmente caros, pero en esta ciudad es difícil encontrar un lugar realmente barato.

For those cold days or boring Sundays you can go to Kakao and drink the best hot chocolate ever. I’m not fan of hot chocolate but in that place it is like drinking a beverage from heaven. It’s a nice and very cute place and you can spend a good time there. They have many sweet things to eat there if you want something else. I would recommend trying the bonbons, they have many flavours such as pepper, cointreau or ginger. The prices are not cheap or especially expensive, but in this city is difficult to find a really cheap place.
