Parada obligatoria en: Ámsterdam

Amsterdam is a charming city, like from fairytales. Everything around is beautiful and clean, with a lot of history and contrasts. I loved the kindness of the people and their love for animals; you can see pets inside the restaurants without any problem.

But let’s get to the point: in Amsterdam you can’t miss their famous French fries with mayonnaise; you also can try any of many other interesting topping choices (I chose the curry sauce, highly recommended). Another interesting and traditional Dutch dish is the Bitterballen which is like fried balls made of meat or cheese with a very strong flavour. It’s usually eaten with mustard while enjoying some beers. Of course you must try the cheese and beers too.

About Bite me

¡Buen provecho!

I definitely like a lot the old restaurants, with history, with a long trajectory without pretentions. I love those places that make you feel like a time traveler when cross the door, sometime else in the past or somewhere else in the World. Obviously I also like new and nice places, but I believe that the most important for one place to stand out and make me feel comfortable as a costumer is that the place has and keeps a cozy atmosphere, preferably quiet and somewhat special. I love eating, it’s my favorite ritual in life and when it’s accompanied by 3 elementals factors like: The appropriate place, food quality and good company to share the moment, it’s created the perfect experience to enjoy the act of eating. And yes, I think that when you share the food it tastes better.
Bon apetit!

Trolly, Caracas.

El Trolly is an amazing diner that has been at the same place since 1963. It’s wonderful to get into this restaurant and feel like in back to the future or in this case back to the past… it’s an incredible sensation that I really love. The first time I went it reminded me of the TV show called Eerie Indiana. They have a big menu with a lot of tasty food to eat but I really suggest any arepa (traditional food from Venezuela). One of the best things in this place is that they seem to pay tribute/homage to bacon and that is awesome, almost everything has bacon, and if not they put a little piece on top your meal for garnish. Another important thing is to enjoy their shakes that for sure you will love, it’s very funny because the shakes have famous personalities names on the menu like: Yoko Ono (Chocolate ice cream + banana), John Lennon (Vanilla ice cream + banana) or Nancy Ramos (Strawberry ice cream + strawberries). The restaurant is open at night and I think it’s open until early morning, and if you want you can eat in your car because they have drive in service. The price, like always in this country, is not cheap at all but in this case worth the effort because you pay for eating in 1963.

Tick Tock Diner, New York

This diner is very beautiful, it looks like an old and traditional diner from USA and it’s located in the heart of Manhattan, across the street from the Subway and right next to the famous New Yorker hotel (fact: in this hotel lived Nicola Tesla). This diner is really nice, the atmosphere is marvellous and the attention is very good. I think eating there would be like eating in the peach pit from the old TV show Beverly Hills 90210. They have a large menu with a lot of food like burgers, sandwiches, pancakes & crepes, omelettes, salads, waffles & French toast, eggs & specialities and amazing frosty milkshakes and cakes. The burgers are really good and the cookies and cream milkshakes are like from another planet, but the carrot cake, apple pie and New York cheesecake are marvellous too. If you want to eat American food go there and enjoy, try whatever you like that it will surely taste awesome. The price is around 10$ a big meal and 5$ more or less the sweet things. It’s up to you but it’s very advisable.

Caffe il Botticello, Caracas

Carpaccio de res / beef Carpaccio
Pizza

This is one of my favourite places of the city because it’s a small, cozy and warm. This is an Italian restaurant with 10 tables more or less, it’s very old and I definitely love their vintage decor. The food in this place is delicious; they have one of the best pizzas in this city and an amazing beef Carpaccio that is highly recommended. Sometimes you have to wait to get into the place because could be full. It’s located in one of the greatest zones of Caracas and it’s near the Subway, which is nice if you go there on foot. The prices are a little bit expensive but not too much and the attention can be good or not so much - it’s a matter of luck.

If you want to feel like Wimpy (the character from Popeye) you have to go to Taxco. It’s an old cafeteria with a simple style in the west side of Caracas and it has been there for many years doing the same delicious little burgers. They have a variety of food in the best style of any diner but they are famous for their burgers: small and very simple with a little flat but well seasoned patty and an amazing sauce that appears to be made by the gods. I don’t know what the secret is for their yummy taste and maybe I never will, but definitely they are wonderful. The fun is to go and order a lot of burgers, but I also recommend trying the awesome fries with lemon, the grilled cheese and jelly sandwich that is delicious (and it’s a nice option if you are vegetarian) and of course the shakes or the amazing toddy.  The price is like the little burgers from McDonald’s, not too cheap or too expensive. As a last recommendation I can say that it’s better to go during the day or not too late at night because the zone is just not that pretty.

Ps: They should be put a Taxco challenge: who can eat more burgers. The limit I have seen someone eating is 10 taxcoburgers.
