Pensión Ana, Caracas

Este restaurante solía ser una pensión y ha estado en el mismo lugar por más de 55 años. Hoy en día es solo un restaurante, pero uno bueno con mucha experiencia haciendo comida italiana impresionante. Se especializan en pastas, pero tienen otros platos increíbles con un gran gusto. Este lugar es muy simple  pero con el encanto que los restaurantes viejos tienen; cuando entras te sientes tan confortable que es muy agradable ir. Este lugar es el restaurante italiano favorito de uno de mis amigos y él lo visitaba desde que era un niño… buenos recuerdos alrededor de este lugar. Mi amigo recomienda los ñoqui cuatro quesos, pero realmente pienso que puedes escoger lo que quieras y seguramente será maravilloso. Este restaurante está ubicado en un lugar un poco inseguro, así que es mejor si vas para la hora del almuerzo. Para terminar tengo que decir que los precios no son muy caros para ser un restaurante de tradición.

This restaurant used to be a pension and has been at the same place for more than 55 years. Nowadays it is only a restaurant, but a good one with a lot of experience making awesome Italian food. Their speciality is pasta, but they have other incredible dishes with a great taste. This place is very simple but with the charm that the old restaurants have; when you go inside you feel so comfy that is very nice to go. This place is the favourite Italian restaurant for one of my friends and he visits it since he was a kid… good memories around this place. My friend recommends the four cheese gnocchi, but I really think that you can choose whatever you want and it will surely be wonderful. This restaurant is located in a place a tad unsafe, so it’s better if you go for lunch. To finish I have to say that the price is not that expensive for a traditional restaurant.

Parada obligatoria en: Londres

Londres es uno de mis lugares favoritos en el mundo; no puedo explicar por qué, solo puedo decir que lo siento como el hogar perfecto. Estoy enamorada de esta ciudad y fue amor a primera vista. Es una metrópolis asombrosa, hermosa por todos lados y muy agitada y calmada al mismo tiempo. El clima puede ser frío o lluvioso incluso en verano pero a pesar de eso es adorable.    

London is one of my favourite places in the World; I can’t explain why, I only can say that I feel London like a perfect home. I’m in love with this city and it was love at first sight. It is an amazing metropolis, beautiful from every angle and so lively but calm at the same time. The weather can be cold or rainy even in the summer but despite that it is lovely.

Pero vamos al punto, mucha gente dice que no se come bien en Londres, pero estoy en desacuerdo porque puedes encontrar mucha comida diferente de todos lados en la misma ciudad: italiana, árabe, china, japonesa… Pero yo quiero hablar acerca de cosas más tradicionales, así que sugiero que si vas a Londres no te pierdas el tradicional pescado empanizado con papas fritas, y ve a tomar una cerveza (pint) en cualquier maravilloso bar, y por favor, yo sé que esto puede ser un poco más difícil pero es una verdadera parada obligatoria, trata de comer un perro caliente en la calle: están hechos con grandes salchichas al grill, cebollas grilladas y una salsa (usualmente mostaza), es delicioso y bastante grande pero seguramente podrás comértelo todo. Claro, si te gustan los tés tienes que tomarte una taza, en un lujoso lugar o en uno simple igual lo amarás. Espero veas el encanto de Londres como yo lo puedo ver.

But lets get to the point, a lot of people say that you can’t eat well in London but I disagree because you can find a lot of different food from everywhere in the same city: Italian, Indian, Arabian, Chinese, Japanese… But I want to talk about traditional things, so I really suggest if you go to London don’t miss the traditional fish and chips; go to drink a pint in any wonderful pub, and please, I know that this one can be a bit difficult but it is a real mandatory stop, try to eat a hot dog in the street, they are made with big grilled franks, grilled onions and one sauce (usually mustard), it is delicious and very big but you can surely eat it all. Of course, if you like teas you need to have a cup, in a fancy place or a simple one you will love it either way. I hope you see the charm of London as I see it.               

Agrada, Caracas

Este lugar es bastante nuevo pero espero que dure mucho. Es un restaurante pequeño y acogedor, lleno de arte, música y vida que te hace sentir complacido justo como su nombre lo indica. Tienen alrededor de 6 mesas para recibirte y ofrecen unas de las mejores hamburguesas de Caracas, tienen una variedad de ellas como: Agrado (con rúgula, berro, tocineta, queso, champiñones y tomate) o la Llanera por ejemplo (con queso Santa Bárbara a la plancha, aguacate, tomate y alfalfa); también tienen ensaladas, arepas, chistorripanes, tequeños y otros platos deliciosos. Una de mis cosas favoritas es los contornos porque tienen las maravillosas berenjenas y batatas tempurizadas que amo. Otra cosa impresionante es que tienen opciones para vegetarianos que no es común, pero la mejor parte de este lugar es la atención; yo he dicho que en este país es difícil encontrar un sitio donde la atención sea muy buena, pero en este restaurante es más que buena, es realmente excelente y eso se aprecia, felicitaciones por eso. Para terminar tengo que decir dos cosas increíbles más: Los precios no son costosos y están abiertos all night long, all night (8) hasta después de media noche, o sea que puedes ir después de la rumba, pero la comida se va rápido así que es mejor si vas antes.

This place is very new but I hope it lasts long. It is a small and cozy restaurant full of art, music and life that makes you feel pleased just like its name implies. They have around 6 tables to receive you and they offer one of the best burgers in Caracas, they have a variety of them like: Agrado (with rugula, watercress, bacon, cheese, mushrooms and tomato) or Llanera for example (with grilled Santa Barbara cheese, avocado, tomato and alfalfa); they also have salads, arepas, chistorripanes, tequeños and others delicious dishes. One of my favourite things is the side orders because they have the amazing eggplant and sweet potato tempura that I love. Another awesome thing is that they have options for vegetarian people which is not common, but the best part of this place is the attention; I have said before that in this country is difficult to find a place where the attention is very good, but in this restaurant is more than good, it’s really excellent and that is appreciated, so congrats for that. To finish I have to say two more incredible things: The prices aren’t expensive and they are open all night long, all night (8) past midnight, so you can go after party but the food goes fast, so you better go sooner.

Buffalo wings, Caracas

Buffalo wings (ftw) es un maravilloso nuevo lugar ubicado en el CSI (Centro San Ignacio) un famoso centro comercial en Caracas no la serie de tv,  pero lo grandioso es que este lugar es el único especializado en Buffalo wings y la comida ahí es realmente buena. Tengo que decir que este lugar es como el cielo o Disney para los amantes de las alitas. Es un bonito restaurante con un aire a cualquier sitio de comida tradicional americana. Tienen un menú extenso lleno de nombres graciosos para la comida donde puedes encontrar: Buffalo wings en porciones de 10 hasta de 60 (esta última es llamada parranda) y puedes ordenarlas sin huesos (aunque estas son fritas) pero yo las prefiero con huesos, también tienen diferentes tipos de salsa para ponerle encima a las alitas y yo solo puedo decir dos palabras: barbicue ron. Como acompañante puedes escoger muchas cosas como: papas fritas Madonna, zanahorias y celery Bugs Bunny, Nat king Coles slaw (ensalada de repollo), aros de cebolla y otros que no recuerdo. Lo mejor son los guantes que te dan para comer: puedes comer con tus manos sin ningún problema y te sientes como un salvaje en su reino. La mejor parte es que no es caro y de hecho algunos platos son realmente baratos.

Pd: Es mejor ir durante el día si no te gustan los lugares ruidosos y fiesteros. 

Buffalo wings (ftw) is a wonderful new place located at the CSI (Centro San Ignacio) a famous mall in Caracas not the tv show, but the great thing is that this place is the only one specialized in Buffalo wings and the food there is really good. I have to say that this place is like heaven or Disney for the wing lovers. It’s a beautiful restaurant with an air to any traditional American food place. They have a big menu full of funny names for food where you can find: buffalo wings with portions from 10 to 60 (the latter is called parranda) and you can order them boneless (although this ones are fried) but I prefer them with bones, and also they have many different sauces to put on top of the wings and I only can say two words: rum barbecue. As a side you can choose many things like: Madonna fries, Bugs Bunny carrots and celery, Nat king Coles slaw, onion rings and others I can’t remember. The best thing is the gloves that they give you to eat: you can eat with your hands without problem and feel like a savage in their kingdom. The best part is that the price is not expensive and actually some dishes are really cheap.

Ps: It’s better go during the day if you don’t like loud party places.  

Kepén, Caracas / Maracaibo

A mí usualmente no me gusta recomendar franquicias o cadenas de comida rápida porque no es lo mío (aunque también tienen su encanto) pero en este caso les quiero hablar de una que es maravillosa.  Kepén es un bonito lugar que empezó en Maracaibo que luego creció y se ha ido expandiendo; ahora puedes encontrar uno en casi todos los centros comerciales de Caracas. Yo amo este restaurante porque: en primer lugar a mí realmente me gusta mucho el té y ellos ofrecen una gran variedad de ellos, fríos o calientes, y puedes encontrar negro, verde y blanco mezclado con frutas y flores… y todos son increíbles. En segundo lugar, me gusta porque tienen comida deliciosa y sana como ensaladas, sopas, sánduches y tortas. Es la mejor opción si te gusta comer sano como a mí (al menos durante la semana; los fines de semana son para el placer ;)). Kepén es un buen lugar y la mejor parte es el precio porque no es para nada caro. 

I don’t usually recommend franchises or fast food chains because it’s not my thing (although they have their charm) but in this case I want to talk about one of them that I find amazing. Kepén is a nice place that started in Maracaibo and they have grown up and expanded; now you can find one in almost every mall in Caracas. I love this rest because: in the first place I really like tea and they offer a huge variety of them either cold or hot and you can find black, green and white tea mixed with fruits and flowers… and all of them are incredible. In the second place, I like it because they have delicious and healthy food like salads, soup, sandwiches and cakes. It’s the best option if you like eating healthy like me (at least during the week, the weekend is for pleasure ;)).  Kepén is a good spot and the best part is the price because is not expensive at all.
